This petroglyph depicting a human-like figure connected to a spiral and a canine. The relation of these three images is speculative. The petroglyph is found at the Anasazi village site of Una Vida in  Chaco Canyon.

Sundagger.
Located on Fajada Butte, Chaco Canyon, New Mexico are three sandstone slabs and spiral petroglyphs which mark the cycles of both the sun and moon. The sandstone slabs cast late morning & midday sun shadows to indicate both solstices and equinoxes. A vertical shaft of life passes through the center of the spiral at summer solstice.

Concentric circles with lanes radiating out from the outermost circle are found on rock art panels throughout the southwest. They are generally thought to represent the sun. This petroglyph is located at Indian Well, Lanfair, CA.

Square body, two headed bighorn sheep.
The original petroglyph is located in Nine Mile Canyon, Utah and is attributed to the Fremont people. The second head is smaller than the first and is believed to represent the head first birth of a mammals. Notice how the feet are represented by hoof prints. $39

A Spiral.
This symmetrical petroglyph is located on a small boulder at Painted Rocks Reservoir, Gila Bend, AZ. It was made by the Hohokam, ca. AD 1000? Spirals used in conjunction with shadows were sometimes used as solstice markers, they may also represent wind, whirlwinds, emergence, journey to the center, migrations, and rain. sold

Anasazi   a pueblo people centered in the four corners area developing from the Basketmaker Culture and represented by modern groups such as the Hopi and Zuni.   more Anasazi information

Sinagua Culture   people lived primarily in the Verde Valley area of Arizona above Phoenix to above Flagstaff. They were called Sinagua (Spanish for without water) because they 'dry farmed' without irrigation.
